What your venue gets on day one.
Once your kit, upstream connection, and venue account are ready, the first-venue setup is deliberately simple. Here is what guests see, what gets connected, who handles each part, and what to send your IT or ISP before install day.
Your venue gets a branded captive-portal experience, a consent-first guest connection flow, and a router bound to the right venue location. Weird Network handles the platform and pairing path; your venue or IT/ISP provides the physical network conditions.
1. Your branding is ready for the captive portal
The guest-facing splash page can show your logo, colors, and welcome message instead of a generic WiFi screen. The result is a captive portal that feels like your venue from the first tap.
After the router is online, guests reach that portal, complete the connection flow, and receive a WiFi session through the venue's network.
2. Consent comes before the connection form
Before a guest sees the email and name connection flow, the portal shows the venue's consent panel. The guest chooses I Agree & Connect before continuing.
The venue controls the guest-facing consent wording. When a guest agrees, their details are forwarded to the venue for the duration of that WiFi session and are not stored by Weird Network. This is the current venue-controlled flow, not a promise of a separate consent database.
3. The router is bound to your venue
You need a venue operator account and the current Data Processing Agreement accepted. In the dashboard pairing flow, select the venue or location where the router will live, then connect the router to the existing upstream.
The router is bound to that selected venue location rather than left unassigned. Its first boot handshake confirms the connection, and the dashboard can then show the router and guest sessions for the right venue.
For the step-by-step version, see the router onboarding walkthrough.
4. Who handles what?
Weird Network handles: the platform, dashboard pairing, router configuration path, and the product/support path.
Your venue, IT team, or ISP handles: the physical install, power, WAN or upstream handoff, router placement, firewall and DNS rules, walled-garden constraints, VLAN decisions, and any ISP-side changes.
The current support path is email: weird-network@polsia.app. A planned support sidebar is not live yet.
5. How long does install take?
Allow about five minutes for the first-venue router walkthrough once the kit, a live upstream, and nearby power are available. The first boot and handshake can take up to two minutes.
That is the Weird Network setup estimate. It does not include waiting for an ISP visit, a new Ethernet handoff, firewall approval, DNS work, VLAN changes, or another network change controlled by your IT team or ISP.
6. Share this checklist with your IT/ISP
- The venue name, install location, and the spot where the router will be placed.
- A live WAN/ISP or upstream-switch Ethernet handoff for the router.
- A nearby power outlet and confirmation that the router can stay powered.
- Router placement with a usable cable run and appropriate network coverage.
- Outbound HTTPS access on port 443 and working DNS resolution.
- Any firewall, walled-garden, VLAN, or upstream constraints that could affect the first boot handshake.
